Turning Five Process

Special Education Law NYC Mayerson & Associates

Navigating the "Turning Five" Process

The transition to kindergarten, when a child turns five, often is the first time a family will contact our firm. This time frame is the juncture when the child’s IEP moves from the CPSE to the CSE. School placement and in school and after school supports are critical during this phase. We work with our client families to support the identification of appropriate placements/services and provide guidance in the evaluation and assessment process. Whether your child’s placement is within a public school or private school environment, we work to ensure that your child receives the resources they need. Whether your family is eligible for Pendency, Conners, or Carter Funding, we work to secure your family’s entitlements. Invoking and implementing pendency entitlements Pendency is intended to be an automatic and unconditional right, yet pendency issues often have to be adjudicated. We take the steps that are necessary to ensure that your child’s pendency entitlements are properly invoked and implemented.
